Autonomic Response Testing (ART)

Autonomic Response Testing (ART), also known as Applied Kinesiology (AK), is a simple safe, natural method of analyzing the body's structural, physical, mental, emotional and nutritional needs. Imbalances or deficiency in any of these areas could cause or contribute to various acute or chronic health problems. ART is a technique that utilizes a muscle response as an indicator and assessment of the life force status of each organ, gland, system, or structure. This energy assessment is accomplished by testing bio-electrical reflexes, which relate to acupuncture points and meridians (the body's bio-electrical pathways), and monitoring the reactance of the muscle when in contact with these points. When performing ART, the practitioner typically applies a single, controlled downward push on the wrist of the patient's outstretched arm while also making contact with a specific reflex point on the patient's body. The more the body reacts when an energy imbalance is located, the weaker the muscle.

Autonomic Response Testing, is a technique based on the bio-electrical reflexes of the body that  correspond brain  signaling, organs, and metabolic processes. When an organ is imbalanced, there is either increased or decreased electrical activity around that reflex. The practitioner can pick up that signal through a simple muscle testing procedure. For example, there are reflexes to indicate if and why a person is retaining fluid. Fluid is responsible in many cases of obesity. There are reflexes for yeast infection, staphylococcus, streptococcus, tired blood (anemia), reproductive problems, parasites airborne allergies, virus, gall bladder, spleen etc. In many cases, a reflex will point to a problem that is sub-clinical or simply went undetected by traditional medical forms of testing. Often, the symptoms of a health problem are treated while the actual source of the problem continues to go undetected. For example, headaches are treated with aspirin, coughs are treated with cough medicine. If these symptoms persist, expensive tests are run and stronger medications are prescribed. With ART, a practitioner can determine is a health problem is structural, physical, nutritional, mental or emotional. ART is not a method of diagnosis. It is a means by which a health practitioner uses the body's reflexes to accurately determine the root cause of a health problem.

Kinesiology is one of the fastest growing natural therapies in the world. Practiced in over 100 countries, many believe it is the most effective stand-alone technology of the future in alternative medicine. Kinesiology is used to detect and release blockages in the energy pathways of the body. These blockages can be caused by physical, emotional, biochemical or electromagnetic stressors. Through rebalancing its energies, the body's innate healing ability is restored, thereby improving health, enhancing performance, reducing stress and enabling us to achieve our highest potentials.

Finding and Treating the Cause, Not the Symptoms

Traditionally, western medicine treats symptoms and diseases through differential diagnosis. It is a systematic procedure where the physician begins by observing the patient's symptoms, examining the patient, and taking the patient's personal and family history. The most likely causes of the symptoms are listed as possibilities. The physician will ask questions and perform tests to eliminate possibilities until he or she is satisfied that the "single most likely cause" has been identified. A diagnosis is made, and treatment is prescribed. For example, if a patient has an acid stomach, antacids are given. If the gallbladder is causing pain, it is taken out. If the sinuses are congested, antihistamines and decongestants are prescribed. If that doesn't help, the sinuses are scraped. Inhalers and steroids are given to control asthma. However, the question remains, "What is the cause?" If one is unable to determine the cause, patients are doomed to a life which, at best, consists of symptom management, with no hope for complete healing.

Applied Kinesiology Offers Hope

With ART neither symptoms nor specific diseases are treated. It is not a system of differential diagnosis, but a technique in which the practitioner can correct the energy imbalance by finding and treating the cause. In the analysis ART aims to discover what caused the energy blockage or imbalance whereby dis-ease might flourish. With this information a personalized, specific management plan can be created and implemented to care for the patient as a whole: body, mind, and spirit. With ART, patients are given hope. Not just hope that they can manage, but hope that the cause(s) will be found and that complete healing will take place. This is the focus and determined goal of practitioners who utilize ART.

Kinesiology helps the body to heal itself or reach a specified goal by balancing its energies. Stress, imbalances and blockages in the nervous system, subconscious mind, muscles, organs, glands as well as emotional energy centers can be detected by testing the tension in certain muscles and then released. Using ART, the body's primary nutritional needs can be detected in a matter of minutes. Once the problem areas are identified, dietary measures, organic food concentrates, homeopathics, vitamin / mineral therapies and other natural supplements may be used used to support the body's effort to heal itself. ART is simple, precise and cost effective.

Autonomic Response Testing offers:

  • A comprehensive, integrative natural health-care approach

  • Immediate response assessments

  • Integration of practices including Oriental Medicine, Herbology, Applied Kinesiology, Biochemical Clinical Nutrition, vitamin / mineral therapies, Homeopathy, and detoxification therapies

  • A technique to identify the body’s constitutional strengths and weaknesses, organ imbalances and food allergies

  • A way to determine nutritional formulas and individualized dietary programs that support your body

  • Understanding of techniques that can systematically clear and rebuild your body’s integrity

Note: ART does not reveal disease and an appointment doesn’t lead to a diagnosis. While the technique can reveal some current conditions and stress affecting body systems, it is most useful for prevention and long-term health.

How does Autonomic Response Testing work?

Hundreds of miles of nerves carry electrical energy and connect with every organ, gland, muscle and tissue. There are approximately 75 known reflex areas on the skin which represent various organs, glands and bone structures. When the body becomes ill there is an interruption of nerve energy to these reflexes. The reflex, when tested, will act similar to a circuit breaker under an overload.

To test a reflex, the ART or Applied Kinesiology practitioner will use the subject's arm muscle (or any other muscle) as a "circuit" indicator. When the practitioner's fingertip comes near or touches a healthy reflex, the arm muscle will remain very strong. Nerve energy is flowing freely. The practitioner will not be able to push the person's arm down without exerting a lot of force.

However, if the arm muscle is suddenly weak, and the practitioner can easily push the subject's arm down, a "hot circuit breaker" has been located. The nerve energy has been interrupted. Using this reflex information, the practitioner will know if the problem is structural, physical or nutritional.

When nutritional deficiencies are uncovered, an exact nutritional support can be given to help the body heal. (Note: if the deficiency has a structural component which cannot be helped by nutrition or nutrition alone, this can also be determined so that steps can be taken to get these corrected as well.

Most of us don't think about the flow of energy necessary for our body to perform all of its intricate functions. We breathe, blink, and go from an easy walk to an urgent run as we cross a busy street as well as process complex issues all without actually thinking about how this is able to happen. A healthy body is able to adapt according to the given situation and environment. It's called homeostasis. Energy flows balanced and free to every minute area enabling each cell, organ, and system to live and function.

Unfortunately our bodies can also experience energy imbalances. The flow of energy to an organ, gland, system, or structure may be disrupted, or it may be flowing with too high or too low of a frequency necessary for well-being. Interference in the natural, balanced vibrational frequencies of the body causes one to be predisposed to illness and dis-ease. Someone in this state of energy imbalance can be affected by the many causes of disease e.g. stress, poor nutrition, bacteria, etc. Symptoms appear. At onset these may only cause minimal irritation. However, if left unchecked the body would continue to deteriorate into a more severe state of dis-ease.

Amazing Facts About Your Body

  • Except for your brain cells, 50,000,000 of the cells in your body will have died and been replaced with others while you have been reading this sentence.

  • The adult heart beats about 40,000,000 times a year. In one hour, the heart works hard enough to produce enough energy to raise almost one ton of weight one yard from the ground.

  • The liver is often called the body's chemical factory. Scientists have counted 500 different liver functions.

  • The central nervous system is connected to every part of the body by 43 pairs of nerves. Twelve pairs go to and from the brain, and 31 go from the spinal cord. There are nearly 45 miles of nerves running through our body.

  • Messages travel along the nerves as electrical impulses. The fastest they travel is about 248 miles per hour.

  • In one square inch of skin, there are four yards of nerve fibers, 1300 nerve cells, 100 sweat glands, 3 million cells and three yards of blood vessels.

Your body is a wonderful, complex creation. In order to maintain optimal health,  all of its organs, glands, muscles and tissues must be in good working condition. The electrical system (nervous system) must be carrying energy to all areas. There must not be any short circuits. Finally, your body must be fueled with the proper nutrition to maintain optimum health.
